As a super busy working mom, I couldn't live without my slow cooker. Slow cookers are wonderful for helping busy families enjoy healthy home cooked meals without a lot of fuss after a busy day at work. Are you a huge soup fan? Well with the crock pot you most likely will never want to ever open a can of soup in the future. Cut and soften vegetables: Some vegetables (eg carrots, onions, potatoes) take longer to cook than meat. If the recipe combines any of these vegetables with meat, place the vegetables at the bottom of the cooker and then add the meat. Remember to thinly cut the vegetables according to the exact specifications of the recipe. It is recommended that you soften (brown, saute) vegetables (eg onions and carrots) before cooking: you will notice a whole lot of difference in both appearance and taste!

To freeze chili con carne kenji, transfer the chili to a freezer container leaving an inch of head space. Let cool completely, then seal, label and freeze for up to 12 months.
